An eighteen month CD obligates the holder to keep their money in the bank for eighteen months in return for a fixed rate of interest during that time period. The advantages of an eighteen month CD are:

The disadvantages of an eighteen month branch CDs are:

  • Rates are generally lower than on the top online savings and CD accounts.
  • Money is tied up for 18 months. Removing it early results in significant penalties.
